The Worth of Manufacturing

Why Does Manufacturing matter?
Manufacturing is important to us here in the U.S. for multiple reasons.  First and foremost it provides our country with high-wage jobs.  It also creates commercial innovation, a trade deficit reduction, and also contributes to environmental sustainability.  The manufacturers that will have the greatest chance of expanding employment in the U.S. are the those who do the following:

1.        Computers and Electronics

2.       Chemicals

3.       Transportation Equipment

4.       Machinery

Productivity and wages
These vary greatly depending on which industry you are in.  Many top ranking manufacturers in order to produce a higher level of performance hire skilled workers for a respectable wage.  Unfortunately the U.S. falls short to outsourcing manufacturing compared to other counties, mainly because of the laws that are in place to protect the wages of Americans.

3D Printing… Is It The Future?

3D Printing… Is it the future of manufacturing? What is interesting about that question is the fact that 3D printing is actually being used quite frequently in many of todays manufacturing jobs all around the world. So in hindsight, we don’t actually have to wait till the future to see the prevalence of such a phenomenon that is 3D printing because, even more than we may realize, the use and popularity of this form of technological advancement is making great strides. 3D printers use a variety of very different types of additive manufacturing technologies, but they all share one core thing in common: they create a three dimensional object by building it layer by successive layer, until the entire object is complete. 3D printable models may be created with a computer aided design package or via 3D scanner. The manual modeling process of preparing geometric data for 3D computer graphics is similar to plastic arts such as sculpting. 3D scanning is a process of analyzing and collecting digital data on the shape and appearance of a real object. Based on this data, three-dimensional models of the scanned object can then be produced. Most notably, this technology is being utilized in the medical field, NASA’s space operations, and in product prototyping. Technology gurus like Jack Uldrich, however, say there’s no stopping a speeding a train. The choices are get on board, get passed by or get run over, he says. Is 3D printing the future? Look around and decide, you may be surprised what you find out.
